FINANCIAL GUARANTY INSURANCE COMPANY

NEW YORK, USA (1984)

The design for the Financial Guaranty Insurance Company office is composed of a series of landscape vignettes. Curtains of gauzy silk strings that transmit light are used as partitions, screening the views while hinting at a presence beyond. Veiled behind, a blue wall covering shimmers and gives the illusion of a distant horizon. The need for flexibility in the workplace is accommodated by an open-office environment into which self-contained, modular, movable work units are inserted and configured. Experiencing this space is like walking in an English garden: glimpses of each scene hint at what lies around the corner. One leaves this series of visual episodes with the impression of quiet and functional elegance of spaces only partially seen and understood, yet part of a carefully choreographed drama.
